The case for why all Mum’s should be gifted a vibrator for Mother’s Day

The case for why all Mum’s should be gifted a vibrator for Mother’s Day

I am well aware writing under this title is controversial. There will be naysayers and haters who will call out shame and horror at this possibility. But after watching the Brene Brown Netflix special (if you haven’t watched it, Definitely do!!), I realise that if I am not willing to be courageous and vulnerable to haters, then the world will never change. And it needs to.

So…here is the case for why I started with my controversial statement.

To be clear, I am not suggesting that your kids buy the gift or give it. While I want to challenge social norms and help women find their comfort in their own sexuality, this doesn’t necessarily need to be shared with your kids. But as a partner, or even just for yourself, Mum deserves to feel pleasure and loved.

Here are the facts:

  • 75% of women require external stimulation
  • Around 60% of women don’t or can’t enjoy sex
  • Sex is a natural, normal and healthy part of our lives
  • Sex is a great way to release endorphins
  • Learning to love your body and exploring your erogenous zones and orgasmic spots can help improve your body image
  • Sex toys can improve sexual function and be FUN

Mums work tirelessly everyday to ensure the wellbeing of everyone else, often at her own expense. I would also be remiss to not point out that many Dad’s do too, which is why this will also be the perfect Father’s Day gift!

In our research, many women felt that they just didn’t have the time or energy to put into their sexual wellness. We are often exhausted by the end of the day and the choice between sexy time and bedtime is usually not even a remotely difficult decision. But making time for yourself and your partner is so important in relationships. Not for the other person, but for yourself. Feeling connected emotionally and sexually are fundamental parts of a partnership. But it can be hard to get in the mood and to feel sexy when you have just had a day revolving around little or big people who may walk in at any moment.

So how can pleasure products like Aphrodite help?

Well they can bring back a fun and enjoyable experience. Stepping out of “Mum mode” and back into “sexy, empowered woman mode”. Using an aid like a pleasure product can be the trigger to help change the mood in the first place. Plus, given how many women require external stimulation, using Aphrodite can help stimulate the clitoris either before or during sex to help fulfill sexual desires. A non-phallic looking toy means Mum or Dad don’t have to be offended or threatened, but rather just enjoy the experience.

So shouldn’t we give mum the ultimate gift of loving her own body and herself? Joy? Pleasure? And hopefully some amazingly intimate connection with either herself or her partner? How else could we better celebrate the gift of unconditional love and support and sacrifice that our Mum’s give to us.
